About me

After Graduating from University I worked as a teacher in several schools. This provided me with many insights, including an in depth understanding of the developmental, emotional, social and educational issues of Children and Young People and a comprehensive understanding of school and their support systems. This was furthered when I returned to University to complete my Postgraduate qualifications in Counselling and Psychotherapy.

Since then I have worked with a diverse client group each bringing their unique needs,

within a GP practice, running a school counselling service, private practice and on the

hospital wards. This has furthered my experiences of working with adults in addition to

children and teenagers and has provided insights into factors creating and perpetuating challenges, impacting negatively on mental health. I have a specialist interest in neurodiversity and how this impacts on daily lives, I have undergone extensive training in this area to strengthen my understanding and inform the support I offer.

My various roles within school have provided me with a comprehensive understanding of safeguarding procedures and the impact managing these have on our emotional wellbeing. This has enabled me to support pastoral and safeguarding leads within a number of schools where I currently provide reflective supervision, promoting and protecting staff wellbeing. I also provide clinical supervision to a number of qualified counsellors and counsellors in training.

I work passionately within the field of people’s mental health and wellbeing. My leap from teacher to counsellor was fuelled by experiences of people thriving when barriers from mental health were removed. I have experienced first-hand how positive attachments to key figures can impact massively on people and how this permeates into their ability to fulfil their potential in all aspects of their life. Through my experiences I have learned how strengthening relationships and enhancing communication between them can be pivotal in the wellbeing of the whole person. I believe strongly that supporting people in a non-judgemental, empathetic manner and have witnessed how this enables us to share the challenges we encounter without feeling embarrassed or ashamed.
